Abstract

PURPOSE:To effect the cooling in accordance with a load of the engine by a method wherein a capillary structural body maintaining and supplying a cooling medium is attached around outer walls of a cylinder and a combustion chamber to control a cooling capacity due to evaporation of the cooling medium with a pressure of a closed cooling system. CONSTITUTION:The outer wall of the cylinder bore of a cylinder block 1 and the same of the combustion chamber of a cylinder head 2 are surrounded by the porous capillar structural body 3 such as a foamed metal, a foamed ceramic, metallic fibers or the like. The cooling medium 9 is sent to the capillary structure body 3 by a pump 8 through a passageway 10 and is evaporated by adsorbing heat of a heating source, then, is sent to a radiator 4 from an evaporating chamber 2a through a passageway 11 and is returned to a liquid phase after cooled by an electric fan 5. A pressure sensor 7 in the evaporting chamber 2a, which is a closed system, senses an evaporating capacity in accordance with a calorific power of the heating source and cooling of the electric fan is controlled by a control circuit 6. According to this system, a control of cooling in accordance with the load of the engine may be effected.
