Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the thermal efficiency upon low-load operation and to reduce the knocking upon high-load operation by a method wherein the pressure in an evaporation cooling system is controlled variably in accordance with the operational condition of an engine to control a cooling temperature of the engine of evaporation cooling type. CONSTITUTION:A radiator 4 is communicated with a fitting portion 1a of a capillary structural body 3 in a cylinder block 1 and a closed evaporation chamber 2a in a cylinder head 2 through passageways 10, 11 respectively while cooling medium 9 is sent to the fitting portion 1a of the capillary structural body in the cylinder block 1 by a pump 8 through the passageway 10. An electric fan 5 is controlled by a control signal of a control device 6, which is based on a signal of a pressure sensor 7 detecting a pressure in the evaporation chamber 2a of the cylinder head 2.
