Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve an automatic tracking function by tracking a target by a point tracker circuit, by performing automatic switching to the detection of an area tracker circuit when the target can not be detected and by performing switching again when the point tracker circuit acquires it again. CONSTITUTION:A TV video signal obtained by picking up the image of an image pickup objective area by image pickup unit 1 is led to point tracker circuit 2. Then, circuit 2 tracks a target and when the target detection becomes impossible, switching to the detection of area tracker circuit 3 is done automatically. Then when circuit 2 acquires the target again, circuit 3 is changed over to circuit 2 again. Thus, the automatic tracking function for the image pickup objective area can be improved.
