Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistant property and mechanical strength of a Pb-Sn-As alloy for a lattice to be used in a lead storage battery by adding a predetermined amount of Bi to the Pb-Sn-As alloy as a third alloying element. CONSTITUTION:Lead alloy consisting of 0.3-3.0wt% of Sn, 0.001-0.1wt% of Bi and the balance of Pb is used as an alloy for making a lattice to be used in a lead storage battery. The lower limit of Sn was determined in view of the overcharging-overdischarging cycle whereas the upper limit of Sn was resulted from the viewpoint of the overdischarging cycle span; the lower limit of As stems from the viewpoint of the mechanical strength while its upper limit was determined in view of occurrence of arusine; and the lower limit of Bi was determined in view of the mechanical strength and corrosion reisistant property while its upper limit finds its basis on the overcharging-overdischarging cycle.
