Abstract
PURPOSE:To make temperature characteristics stable by installing the interdigital electrodes having periods in the optical guide direction on the upper part of optical guides and installing at least one photodirectional coupler between the optical guides. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of optical guides 2, 3 are provided to a dielectric substrate 1 made of lithium niobate having electrooptic effect that causes the rotation of a refractive index elliptical body. One or a plurality of interdigital electrodes 4 which are periodical in the transmission direction of light of the optical guides 2, 3 are provided on these optical guides 2, 3. The switch is constituted by providing at least one photodirectional coupler 6 of the quantity of coupling differing for the light waves having the electric field component parallel to the surface of the dielectric substrate and the light waves having the electric field components perpendicular to the dielectric substrate 1 surface, between the optical guides 2, 3.
