Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the integrally formed decice by such things as making of two optical guides in proximity to a substrate, division of optical guides and provision of electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Two optical guides 2-1, 2-2 are provided parallel in proximity near the surface of a substrate 1 being material having electro-optic effect. If the two optical guides are close, the light propagating in one guide can transfer 100% to the other guide. If a phase difference is given to the two optical guides by providing planar electrodes 3-1, 3-2, 3'-1, 3'-2 in the divided positions on the respective waveguides, providing a high refractive index charging film 11 therebetween and applying voltage to these electrodes, then the incident light is changed over of its optical path or not by said voltage and therefore it turns out that the changing over of the optical path or light modulation may be electrically accomplished.
