Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve ignition property and speed up and stabilize the propagation of flames by a method wherein a groove which is deepened gradually and extended along peripheral edge parts on both sides and then is bent toward the central part is formed on the inner-wall surface of a cylinder head facing the combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: In a cylinder head 4 fixed on the upper surface of a cylinder 2 where an exhaust passage 6 and scavenging passages 7W9 are opened, grooves 11 are provided inside of the inner-wall surface thereof facing a combustion chamber 1 in such a manner that they contain the axial core 0 of the cylinder 2 and are positioned in plane symmetry to the plane which accords with the direction of exhaust of the exhaust passage 6. These grooves 11 are formed in such a manner that they start from the part which lies along the peripheral edge part and corresponds to the outlets of scavenging passages 8 and 9 on the side of exhaust passage 6, are extended with gradually increased depth in the length equivalent to about 1/3 of the circumference of a circle and bent toward the central part thereof. And, the grooves 11 on both sides are joined in the central part to form a groove 11', and in the joining part thereof an ignition plug 5 is arranged.
