Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustion of an engine, by communicating a compression chamber formed along a circumferential edge of a piston head immediately before top dead centre with a combustion chamber through recesses which are formed by the valve seat surface processing of intake and exhaust valves.
CONSTITUTION: An annular groove 9 which is opened to a combustion chamber 4 is formed along a circumferential edge 3a of a cylinder head 3, while an annular protrusion 21 is provided along a circumferential edge of a piston 2 to form a compression chamber 22 immediately before a top dead centre. Moreover, the cylinder head 3 is provided with recessed 11, 12 to form notch grooves 13, 14 which are opened to the combustion chamber 4 and the annular groove 9. When the piston 2 rises up toward a top dead centre, the volume of the compression chamber 22 decreases and the mixture therein is injected into the combustion chamber 4 under a comporessed state from the notch grooves 13, 14, scavenging a plug gap 8 of an ignition plug 5 while rotating, thereby propagating flames at a high speed.
