Abstract

PURPOSE: To weaken a knocking caused at a high compression ratio by forming two squish areas which are opposed to each other outisde two ignition plugs and laid along a circumference of a clyinder bore.
CONSTITUTION: A suction valve 2 and an exhaust valve 3 are disposed nearly symmetrically with respect to a center of a cylinder bore 11. Two squish areas 6, 6' opposed to each other are formed outside ignition plugs 5, 5' and laid along a circumference of the cylinder bore 11. At a near end of a compression stroke, a mixture remained unburnt in the border of the bore is squeezed as a squish from areas outside the igntion plugs towards the center of a combustion chamber 4 to produce a turbulence, thereby accelerating burning. And the unburnt mixture is cooled by relatively low temperature squish faces 6, 6' and an upper face 9 of a piston head 13.
