Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the improvement in build-up speed by superposing a sheet having specific thickness or less on the base metal to be welded, laying a flux thereon to required thickness and performing submerged arc build-up welding by a band electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet 7 of required material of ≤6mm thickness is superposed on the base metal 8 to be welded and the sheet 7 is closely adhered to the base metal 8 by a sheet press-contacting roller 9. A flux 5 is laid to required thickness thereon and a band electrode 4 provided with a power feed tip 3 is plunged into this flux 5, thence the power is supplied to the tip 3, whereby submerged arc build-up welding is performed. The electrode 4 is suitable supplied by feed rolls 2 in response to the progression of the build-up welding and a welding device 1 is moved in the arrow (a) direction. Then, the clad layer 10 comprising a frozen portion 101 and unfrozen portion 102 is successively deposited on the base metal 8 and a slag layer 11 is successively deposited thereon. The unslagged flux 5 is sucked and discharged by a suction lead 12.
