Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform effective transmission of electromagnetic force by segmenting the wall of a molten metal cooling mold provided with an electromagnetic induction device on the outside thereof in the thickness direction, forming clearances along the wall and interposing thin layers of electrical insulation characteristic or electrically poor conductive materials therein. CONSTITUTION:The wall of a mold 1 is segmented in the thickness direction of the wall and minute clearances of a suitable length are formed along the wall. Thin layers 4 comprising electrical insulation characteristic or electrically poor conductive materials are closely interposed in said clearances. The thin layers used are metal oxide films, enameled films or carbonic thin pieces, etc. When the thin layers are interposed at suitable intervals in the mold 1 wall in this way, the thermal stresses generated in the mold are dispersed and relieved and the clearances that are produced between the mold and frozen shell and become the hindrance for heat transer are dispersed and decreased as well, hence the transmission losses of electromagnetic force are decreased.
