Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the toughness of aluminum killed steel at a low temperature without using grain refining elements such as Nb, V and Zr by hot-rolling the low carbon aluminum killed steel under the conditions of specific temperature and reduction of area and then applying sudden cooling-tempering or air-cooling up to the room temperature and/or tempering to the steel.
CONSTITUTION: Low carbon aluminum killed steel containing 1 or 2 kinds and over of 0.01W0.1% C, 0.1W0.9% Si, 0.5W2.0% Mn, 0.01W0.3% Al or, if necessary, 0.1W1.0% Cu, 0.05W0.5% Mo, 0.1W0.7% Cr, and 0.01W0.5% Ti is hot-rolled at the Ar3 transformation point of the steel within the temperature range, where deformed austenite is not recrystalized, in the reduction of area of about ≥30%. The steel is tempered at the temperature of Ac1 transformation point and less after cooling it suddenly up to the room temperature, air-cooled up to the room temperature after hot-rolling or tempered at the temperature of Ac1 transformation point and less after air cooling. Thus, the toughness of the steel at the low temperature can be increased without addition of specific elements such as Nb.
