Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a welding crack from taking place in a steel even if it is not preheated before welding, by composing the steel of prescribed quantities of C, Si Mn, B, Al and N as indispensable constituents, a prescribed quantity of Mo, V or the like and the rest of Fe etc. and setting the Al content and N content of the steel under limited conditions at the quenching temperature of the steel.
CONSTITUTION: A steel, which comprises 0.02W0.09% of C, less than 0.55% of Si, 0.6W1.4% of Mn, 0.0005W0.002% of B, 0.04W0.1% of Al and 0.002W0.004% of N as indispensable constituents, at least one of less than 0.3% of Mo, less than 0.06% of V, less than 0.3% of Cu, less than 0.6% of Ni and less than 0.3% of Cr and the rest of Fe and unavoidable impurities and is 0.2% or less in Pcm=C+1/ 30Si+1/20(Mn+Cu+Cr)+1/60Ni+1/15Mo+1/10V+5B, is quenched and tempered. The Al content and N content of the steel at the quenching temperature (T°K) are limited as a formula shown.
