Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform retrieval of phase and detection of electric charge without staining recording paper in fitting the same, by setting an electric field between deflecting electrodes at zero when the electric charge is detected in detection of electric charge of ink particles in ink-jet printing. CONSTITUTION:Pressurized ink is jetted from ink-jet nozzles 11, 12, 13, etc. in plural arranged in parallel and, when the jetted ink is separated into ink particles, the charge voltage is impressed on a charging electrode 6, thereby charged ink particles being formed. These charged ink particles are deflected in an electric field between deflecting electrodes 71 and 72 and transferred onto recording paper 2, while noncharged ink particles are caught by a gutter 8 arranged by one for each nozzle, thus ink-jet printing being performed. The detection of the charge of ink particles is performed, on the occasion, by setting the electric field between deflecting electrodes 71 and 72 to be zero.
