Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve reproduction characteristics of a magnetic recording body that has a magnetic film obtained by forming a magnetic body on its base material surface by slanting incident vapor deposition, by driving a head in the opposite direction to the slanting side of a vapor-deposited particle columnar body in recording and reproduction.
CONSTITUTION: On the top surface of tape base material 1, magnetic metal (alloy) is slantingly vapor-deposited by striking to form magnetic recording body 3 that has magnetic layer 2 with a length-directional array of slanting vapor-deposited particle columnar bodies 2a deposited. In reproduction of the recorded body, head 4, etc., of the recording and reproducing device is made to run in the opposite slanting direction of slanting columnar bodies 2a. Namely, the relative run of head 4 is equalized in direction to the slanting side of slanting columanr bodies 2a. This method provides high reproduction characteristics.
