Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (X is ethylene, vinylene or S; R is OH, ρ-tolylsulfonyloxy, methylsulfonyloxy, acyloxy, etc.), or a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 2-Hydroxy-2,3,7,8-tetrahydro-1H-pyrido[3,2,1-lm]dibenz[b,f]azepine.
USE: An antidepressive, an antianxiety and an antiepileptic drugs having anticonvulsant, reserpine antagonistic, domesticating and antimuscarinic actions, or an intermediate for the synthesis thereof.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with an excess of epichlorohydrin under heating to give a compound of formula I wherein R is OH, which is then reacted with a reactive derivative, e.g. ρ-toluenesulfonic acid, to form a compound of formula I wherein R is ρ-tolysulfonyloxy.
