Abstract

PURPOSE: To monitor the wall thickness of a structure and the thickness decreasing speed by a method wherein the measuring terminal of a pressure detector is airtightly fitted in a bottomed measurement hole bored in the outside wall of a structure, and the pressure change in the airtight space thus formed is measured by the pressure detector.
CONSTITUTION: The wall 1 of a structure such as pump, blower, storage tank and pipe is subjected to a boring from the outer side of the wall 1, to form a hole with a hole bottom of a thickness of l2 left on the inner side of the wall 1. The measuring terminal of a pressure detector is airtightly fitted to the outside wall of the structure with a terminal seat 4, to form an airtight space 2 for measurement of pressure change. When the inside wall surface of the structure is corroded and/or worn and the depth of the corrosion and/or wear reaches the thickness of the hole bottom l2, the pressure P2 inside the closed space 2 is changed to be equal to the pressure P1 of the treated substance on the inside of the wall of the structure, the pressure change is detected by the pressure datector and the decrease of the wall thickness corresponding to the thickness l2 of the hole bottom is indicated.
