Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify a thermal head, to detect temperatures precisely, and to perform uniform thermal recording, by arranging detection electrodes in a portion covered with a hardwearing layer and adjacent to a heating portion, and controlling application of an electric power to a heating resistance according to values detected by the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A pair of detection electrodes 10, 11 with their opposed ends spaced apart to difine a narrow gap 9 are provided in a portion covered with a hardwearing layer and adjacent to a heating portion A on a glass glaze layer 2 of an alumina base 1. By these detection electrodes 10, 11, a temperature change of the adjacent heating portion A is detected as a resistance change in the SiC hardwearing layer 6, so that application of an electric power to the heating resistance 3 is controlled. The present thermal head can be manufactured in a simple process, and can detect local temperatures adjacent to the heating portion.
