Abstract

PURPOSE: To deoxidize molten steel at low cost as well as remove completely Al2O3 present in the molten steel by floatation by blowing aluminum ash with a carrier gas, e.g., an inert gas, into the molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: Using the lance 7, the aluminum ash 8 with an inert gas, e.g., Ar, N2, etc., as a carrier gas, is blown from the container 4 into the molten steel in the ladle 2. The aluminum ash is a cheap by-product consisting of 30% metallic aluminum and Al2O3, formed when an aluminum metal is melted. Thus, the deoxidizing cost is lower than the cases where the aluminum metal is used as a deoxidizing agent, and also Al2O3 as a nonmetal inclusion in the molten steel is floated to the surface of the molten steel by the stirring action of the inert gas, thus permitting an Al2O3 free clean steel to be manufactured easily.
