PURPOSE: To improve resolution over a wide range by arranging scanning electrodes and grounding electrodes on an electroacoustic transducer element separately in plural lines.
CONSTITUTION: On one face of an electroacoustic transducer element 10, scanning electrodes 12-1W12-N divided in plural lines and arranged along an electron scanning direction are sticked, and on the other face, grounding electrodes 14-1W14-M divided in plural lines and arranged along a direction Y almost perpendicular to the electron scanning direction X are sticked. By so doing, if the number of the scanning electrodes 12-1W12-N and that of the grounding electrodes 14-1W14-M excited along the electron scanning direction X and the direction Y almost perpendicular to the former are selected so as to correspond to a diagnosing distance, focusing characteristics of supersonic waves along the Y and X directions can be set optionally and optimum beam widths from a short distance to a long distance can be obtained, and thus the desired purpose can be attained.
