Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain resolution which is uniform in a Y direction by forming a probe of an ultrasonic wave vibrator which is divided into three in the Y direction at a 1:2:1 area ratio and an acoustic lens which has a focus corresponding to an aperture varied in the Y direction. CONSTITUTION:The ultrasonic wave vibrator 11 is constituted by dividing a rectangular prismatic piezoelectric body, a linear array with specific pitch in the X direction is formed, and the vibrator is divided into three at the 1:2:1 area ratio in the Y direction. A scan in the X direction is made as usual and the aperture is varied in the Y direction according to the depth of an object position. A shallow position is scanned in the X direction only by an array of signal electrodes 13a. Then the Y-directional width of an ultrasonic beam becomes short since the beam is focused by a lens part 14a of short focal length Fa. Then, when the position is deep, an X-directional scan is made by signal electrodes 13a, and 13b1 and 13b2. At this time, the ultrasonic wave beam is focused in the Y direction by a lens part 14b of focal length Fb to obtain a beam shape as shown in a figure.
