Abstract

PURPOSE:To incorporate an isotropy in the output characteristic of an oscillation laser in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the laser by providing an ultrasonic wave Q switch so as to have the optical axis of a solid laser rod in its ultrasonic wave propagating direction in a plane parallel to the short axis of the ellipse of a condenser and to cross the optical axis at an angle for satisfying Bragg's condition with the optical axis. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic wave switch 7 is so disposed in a plane (plane Z-Y) parallel to the short axis of the ellipse of a condenser 6 including a laser optical axis Z as shown in Fig. 3 in one direction perpendicular to the propagation of its ultrasonic wave as to cross at an angle theta for satisfying Bragg's condition with the laser optical axis Z. The optically excited state of an actual YAG rod 4 has directional characteristic as shown in Fig. 2, and it is different from the directional characteristic of an output of the switch 7 mounted as above, the directional characteristic of the laser output of repetition pulse becomes maximum at the outputs in the directions X, Y at the position of the optical axis Z as shown in Fig. 4, and the attenuation trends of the outputs due to the deflection from the optical axis Z becomes substantially equal in the directions X and Y as shown by broken line circles.
