Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a firm inert gas curtain for wind by coating the top and under surfaces of porous nozzle bodies by sealing material, spouting an inert gas in the form of counter jet flow and specifying the ratio of the nozzle body inside diameter and thickness. CONSTITUTION:Porous nozzle bodies 5 are disposed roughly at a right angle on a pouring pipe 3 on the same concentrical circle as that of the pouring flow 1 in which the molten metal 7 in, for example, a ladle 4, flows down into the pouring pipe 3. The top and under surfaces of the nozzle bodies 5 are perfectly covered with sealing material 8 and an inert gas is spouted in the form of counter jet flow only from the spouting parts 11. In addition, the nozzle body thickness T/nozzle body inside diameter D is made 0.05-0.30. As a result, the jet flow 10 of the inert gas having been straightened by the nozzle bodies 5 is divided to the upper direction and lower direction of the molten metal flow 1. Within the pouring pipe 3 below, a gas layer perfectly shielding the molten metal from the atmospheric air is formed and in the surface of the molten metal flow 1 above, the gas directly contacts the same thereby forming a jet flow layer enclosing the molten metal flow. Thus the entry of the atmospheric air owing to wind is prevented even at velocities of wind of about 1- 2m/sec.
