Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A 4-oxoproline derivative of formula I (R1 is H, lower alkanoyl, or benzoyl; R2 is H or lower alkyl; R is H or lower alkyl), and when R is H, a nontoxic salt of the acid.
EXAMPLE: (2S)-1-[3-Acetylthio-2(RS)-methylpropanoyl]-4-oxoproline.
USE: Hypotensor for oral or nonoral administration, having angiotensinase-inhibiting activity.
PROCESS: A compound of formula I wherein R1 is lower alkanoyl or benzoyl, i.e. a compound of formula III, is prepared e.g. by reacting a compound of formula II (R3 is lower alkanoyl or benzoyl) in the presence of an oxidizing agent such as chromic anhydride. A compound of formula I wherein R1 is H is prepared by hydrolyzing a compound of formula III under basic conditions.
