Abstract
PURPOSE:To control the growth of a crack due to erosion and improve the leakproofness of a battery by adding inorganic power, which is incompatible with glass, to glass used for a hermetic seal type battery sealed with the glass. CONSTITUTION:A generating element 2, for example, a positive electrode compound 2a consisting principally of a substance such as silver oxide, separator 2b, and negative electrode material 2c are laminated, and contained in a flat type metal battery case 1, and an annular space between a rod-shaped metallic collector lead 3 which also serves as a terminal and the case 1 is sealed with glass 4 to form a battery. A dish-shaped collector plate 3a is provided covering the negative material 2c, and the collector plate 3a is welded with the collector lead 3 with a dish-shaped insulating packing 5 interposed between the case 1 and the plate 3a. When, a mixed material of low melting point glass as a glass material 4a and inorganic powder 4b which is not compatible with the glass material, for example, lead titanate or beta-eucriptite, is used as glass 4 for sealing.
