Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the sticking of spatter on a shielding gas nozzle to be detected by providing a gas outflow hole for detection to the tip of the shielding gas nozzle releasing shielding gas for shading of weld zone.
CONSTITUTION: A detecting gas outflow hole 13a is provided to the tip of a shielding nozzle 1 and electric current is supplied from an electric power source 11 to a filler core 6 via a contact tip 2 so that the base materials 7 to be welded are continuously welded by the arc 8 between them and the core. At this time the detecting gas 14 which is reduced of pressure by a pressure reducer 20 and is controlled of flow by a flow regulating valve 18 is flowed from a cylinder. It is desirable to make the flow rate thereof small to be extent of not disturbing the flow of the shielding gas 4. This gas 14 spouts from the effluent hole 13a at the end of a conduit via a solenoid valve 17, a pressure detector 16, etc. In a state where there is no spatter deposit, the detector 16 does not operate. When the hole 13a chokes on sticking of spatter 12a, the gas 14 flow becomes zero or extremely slight and the pressure in the conduit 13 and hose 15 rises approximately to a preset pressure. This causes the detector 16 to operate, thereby stopping the current supply or emitting an alarm.
