Abstract
1379551 Welding by fusion INDUSTRIAL FAN & HEATER CO Ltd 21 Feb 1972 [1 March 1971] 5681/71 Heading B3R In fusion seam welding wherein a welding device, such as an oxyacetylene torch or arc welding electrode, and a workpiece component or components are relatively linearly moved along the seam and powdered flux is fed to the welding zone, a channel shaped retention means and a suction means fast with the welding device, are provided respectively to preclude falling away of and recover flux. The retention means is provided with one or more holes through which the welding device and flux feeding and suction means extend. As shown, in the submerged-arc, longitudinal, seam welding of a tube 11, the retention means is a channel 15 having side edges contacting or lying closely adjacent the tube and a web provided with holes 16, 17 through which extend respectively an electrode and flux housing 12 and, downstream of the electrode, a suction pipe 18. The latter is secured to the periphery of the hole 17, as by welding, and has an open ended mouth which is directed towards the electrode, is shaped to conform to the tube surface and, preferably, extends between the sides of the channel 15. Welding current is fed to the electrode through a lead 13, and flux is fed to the housing 12 through a pipe 14. Either the electrode or the workpiece is moved.
