Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent magnetization of a pipe body and to stabilize the arc, by applying an arc current in the reverse direction to the welding current, by fitting an earthing cable to the end of the pipe reverse to the progross of welding diection.
CONSTITUTION: The welding current is passed from welding DC power source 6 to power cable 3 of welding torch 2 extended in the opposite direction of welding progress direction 10, and welding on beveling 7 which has not been welded of pipe body 1, is performed with the arc from welding torch 2. When pipe body 1 is welded with DC, the magnetic field generated at the nonwelded beveling section near the arc will be magnetic field HW generated by the welding curreng flowing through the parallel section of pipe body of power cable 3 and magnetic field HA generated by the welding current flowing through the vertical section of pipe body and the current of arc pillar. When the pipe diameter is larger, magnetic field HA is larger than magnetic field HW, and the welding is interrupted. To prevent such interruption, therefore, earthing cable 5a is fitted to the end of pipe and magnetic field HE is formed in the same direction with magnetic field HW by passing the arc current through the inside of pipe body 1 in the opposite direction of welding current. By this, magnetic field HA is negated and magnetization of pipe body 1 is prevented.
