Abstract

PURPOSE: To deodorize adlay, by immersing polished adlay grains in an aqueous solution of a chloride of an alkaline metal or alkaline earth metal.
CONSTITUTION: Adlay grains are polished, and water is absorbed in the adlay grains to give a moisture content of 15W50%. The adlay grains after the water absorption are immersed in an aqueous solution of a chloride at room temperature to 60°C for 1W16hr, washed with water and dried. Sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride or magnesium chloride may be used as the chloride. The concentration of the chloride is selected in the range of 1W30wt%, and the chloride may be used solely or in a mixture of several types thereof.
