Abstract
PURPOSE: A composition consisting of active carbon carrying unfired water-soluble Mn compound is effective and econominal in contact removal of O3 from the gas containing O3.
CONSTITUTION: A water soluble Mn compound having solubility in water about 1g or more per 100g water at room temperature is carried by active carbon in an amount of about 0.1 to 10 wt% as Mn and then dried. Instead of water-soluble Mn compound, one or more of water soluble alkali metal or alkali earth metal compounds may be impregnated into active carbon and dried. Care should be taken, however, that the total metal should not exceed 10 wt%. The resultant active carbon is contacted with a gas containing about 1 to 10000ppm O3 at about 0 to 60°C for a period of about 0.1 to 20 seconds. This composition is much more active than conventional ones, having a long service life, and econimical since the quantity required is only 1/3 to 1/4 of the conventional.
