Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce fatigue deterioration of characteristics due to repeated charging of a photoreceptor, to enhance durability, and to always obtain a good image, by charging the photoreceptor in the range in which Ohm's law that voltage/current relationship is linear applies. CONSTITUTION:A photoreceptor is charged within a voltage VH in the region I in which Ohm's law is appliable, i.e., the characteristic curve of voltage/current of the photoreceptor is linear as shown in the figure. In the region II, the relationship deviates from Ohm's law and current I increases nonlinearly, and when voltage exceeds VS and enters the region III, dielectric breakdown occurs at least. For example, a specified pirylene pigment is vapor-deposited on a conductive substrate to form a carrier generating layer, and a carrier transfer layer containing a specified electron donor is formed on this layer to form a photoreceptor, and when the charged voltage exceeds >=-560V negative voltage as the voltage VH, the charging fatigue of the photoreceptor occurs soon, but when the charge is <=-560V, even repeated imaging in >=10,000 times does not cause deterioration of image quality.
