Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an ultrasonic wave probe having a resonance over a wide range of frequency bands, by forming a concave or convex surface at least on one of both surfaces of an electroacoustic transducer which is used for an ultrasonic wave probe or forming a concave or convex surface having different curvatures on both sides of the transducer. CONSTITUTION:As shown in the diagram, at least one of both surfaces of an electroacoustic transducer 10 which is used for an ultrasonic wave probe is formed concave. An electrode 12 is formed on both surfaces with installation of a sound packing material 16 damping the free vibration on the rear side of the transducer 10. An electric signal having a frequency equal to the resonance frequency dicided by the thickness of the transducer 10 is supplied to the electrode 12 to produce an intensive ultrasonic wave. In the case of a concave surface, the center part of the transducer 10 has a resonance with a high frequency which is gradually reduced toward the circumference part. The same result is obtained with a convex surface instead of the concave surface or with a concave or convex surface having different curvatures. In such way, a wide frequency band fW can be obtained to realize a probe that is suited to various types of objects to be inspected.
