Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a button-type alkaline battery of a large capacity at a low cost by using an anode consisting of a layer made of lead dioxide, and a layer which is made of manganese dioxide and is placed on the side facing a cathode. CONSTITUTION:An anode 3 of a button-type alkaline battery consists of two layers: a layer 3a principally containing lead dioxide, and a layer 3b which principally contains manganese dioxide and is placed on the side facing the cathode. A separator 4 consisting of a grafted polyethylene and cellophane, a liquid-holding material 5 made of nonwoven cloth, and a zinc cathode 6 made up of 10% amalgamated zinc and carboxylmethylcellulose are placed over the anode 3, in that order, and the whole constitutes a battery. Each of the layers 3a and 3b contains 10wt% of graphite. As the electrolyte of the battery, sodium hydroxide of 5 molar concentration which is saturated with zinc oxide is used. Owing to the above constitution, silver may be added to the layer 3b in order to increase the discharging performance of the battery, and a water repellent agent may be added to the layers 3a and 3b in order to increase the preservation performance of the battery. Consequently, a battery of a low cost which has a large capacity and an improved preservation performance can be obtained.
