Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the degradation in responsiveness owing to high temp. exposure and to improve the initial characteristics of responsiveness as well by constituting the sensing body of an oxygen partial pressure detecting element in a specific proportion ratio of TiO2 and SiO2. CONSTITUTION:A slurry prepd. by mixing 99.5-80mol% TiO2 powder, and 0.5-20mol% SiO2 powder and adding the mixture to a soln. of butyral resin or the like is molded to a sheet form of 0.9mm. thickness, and the resultant green sheet is blanked to a disc shape 1 of about 4mm. diameter. A pair of alloy wires consisting of platinum and gold are placed as electrode wires 2, 2' on this disc, and the 2nd disc (the same material as that of the 1st disc) coated with a solvent on the joining surface is joined thereto by applying light pressure. The joined disc is calcined for about 1hr at about 1,300 deg.C in air, whereby the oxygen partical pressure detecting element is obtained. In this way, the element is made difficult to cause degradation in characteristics despite the use where it is exposed to high temperatures, such as in air-to-fuel-ratio control systems of automobiles, gas water heaters and the like.
