Abstract

PURPOSE:To indicate an analog output free of lambda characteristic by employing an alloy made up of gold and at least one platinum group element such as platinum, rhodium and palladium as electrode material. CONSTITUTION:This sensor comprises a porous metal electrode 2 formed on the outer surface of a solid electrolyte 1 made of an oxygen ion conductor, a porous metal electrode 3 formed on the inner surface thereof and a porous ceramic layer 4 for protecting the elctrode 2. The outer surface of the electrolyte contacts an exhaust gas therein while the inner surface thereof is communicated to the open air. A gold 70%-platinum alloy is used for the porous metal electrode 2 and platinum for the porous electrode 3. This checks sharp changes in the indication of oxygen concentration thereby making the response characteristic moderate.
