Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an air electrode with a long service life, by using a specific porous catalytic layer. CONSTITUTION:If nickel powder or its porous sintered material is applied with heat treatment in the air, hydroxyl can be introduced to its surface. In this way, a functional group is introduced to the surface of conductive powder, and a dehydrating reaction, substitution reaction, etc. are performed between the conductive powder and a metal chelate compound, having amino radical, carboxyl, sulfonic group, hydroxyl, etc., then chemical union, for instance, amide, ester, carbonyl and ether, is generated between the conductive powder, having said functional group, and the chelate compound, thus the both can be firmly bound. The obtained conductive powder is kneaded with a normally used binding agent, and the kneaded material is performed with the prescribed method, for instance, rolling work, then formed to a porous molded material in suitable thickness, thus a porous catalytic layer can be obtained.
