Abstract

1528405 Gas diffusion electrode containing carbon black CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED 10 June 1976 [19 June 1975] 24027/76 Heading H1B A porous gas diffusion electrode for producing solutions of peroxo-compounds by cathodic reduction of oxygen having a working layer pressed on an electrically conducting support, e.g. nickel gauze, sintered metal plate, a gas permeable plate coated with metal in which the active component of the working layer is carbon black having a specific surface area of up to 45 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. The working layer additionally comprises 3 to 50 weight per cent of a binding agent, e.g. polyethylene or P.T.F.E. and may contain 5 to 60 volume per cent of a compound which increases the porosity of the layer, e.g. KHCO 3 . The electrode may be subsequently sintered at 170‹ C. or 350‹ to 380‹ C. or may be prepared by pressing the working layer on to the support at the sintering temperature of the binding agent.
