Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the aging of a Pb electrolytic soln. contg. Tl due to the decomposition of additives in the soln. by using a diaphragm type anode when Tl is recovered from the soln. by electrolysis.
CONSTITUTION: An electrolytic soln. used in the electrolytic refining of Pb contains several W20g/l Tl. This soln. is poured into an electrolytic cell 1 and circulated through the inside and outside of the cell with a pump P. An anode 5 is put into a diaphragm 6 made of wood, synthetic resin, ceramic or the like, and the diaphragm 6 is filled with a sulfuric acid soln. having about 200g/l concn. as an anolyte 7 to produce an anode structure 3. This structure 3 is immersed in the electrolytic soln. 9, and by applying a DC voltage between the structure 3 and a cathode 2, Tl is deposited on the cathode 2 and recovered. Since the anode 5 hangs in the diaphragm 6, it does not directly contact with the soln. 9, and the soln. 9 is not aged by the decomposition of glue, sodium lignate, etc. contained in the soln. Thus, Tl deposit on the cathode 2 has high purity such as ≥99.99%.
