Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover metal Tl by a method wherein the lead electrolyte containing Tl is subjected to lead removal treatment and electrolyzed by using an insoluble anode to electrodeposit said Tl on a cathode.
CONSTITUTION: Sulfuric acid is added to the Pb electrolyte for electrolytic refining to precipitate Pb as PbSO4. A residual liquid obtained by removing PbSO4 by filtering is used as the electrolyte and the metal Tl obtained by electrolysis or Pb is used as the insoluble anode and a stainless steel plate is used as a cathode to carry out the electrolysis and, thereby, the metal Tl is electrodeposited on the cathode. Because said Tl has purity of about 99%, said Tl is cast into the anode and used again in the electrolytic treatment by using an electrolyte containing Tl at a concn. of 5W30g/l and sulfuric acid at a concn. of 10W35g/l to produce the metal Tl with purity of 99.99%.
