CONSTITUTION: Since, during a certain period of time immediately before the start of recording, an electromagnetic valve 5 is closed, an electromagnetic valve 26 is opened, an electromagnetic valve 28 is switched, and a detection pipe 25 on the intake side is led to a viscosity detection controller 27, ink inside an ink tank 1 is supplied under pressure to a device 27 by a pump 2. After the lapse of a certain period of time, the electromagnetic valve 5 is opened, the electrimagnetic valve 6 is closed, ink is supplied to the head 11, and recording is started. At the same time, the electromagnetic valve 28 is switched, the detection pipe 25 on the discharge port side is led to the device 27, and the viscosity of ink sampled is detected. When the detected value is higher than a set value, the electromagnetic valve 24 is opened during a certain period of time, and then diluting water in a water tank 22 is supplied to the tank 1.
