Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the structure of the apparatus and to improve the reliability thereof by a method wherein a suction adjusting valve of the screw compressor is controlled by switching from a suction choking mode to an ON-OFF mode or vise versa in proportion to the quantity of air used.
CONSTITUTION: When an adjuster 11 judges from a signal from a detector 10 that the air ratio is of the lower flow rate side with respect to a switching point R1, it gives a command signal to a servo valve 8 so that the suction adjusting valve 2 is opened or closed to the full in response to a signal from a pressure detector 6 to thereby control the valve 2 in an ON-OFF mode. On the contrary, when the adjuster 11 judges that the air ratio is of the higher flow rate side with respect to the switching point R1, it controls the servo valve 8 so that the sucking port of the valve 2 is choked in response to a signal from the pressure detector 6 while the opening degree of the sucking port is fed back by a position detector 9 to thereby control the valve 2 in a suction choking mode. Thus, the flow rate of the air and the discharge pressure of the compressor can be adjusted by controlling the suction adjusting valve 2 through both the suction choking mode and the ON-OFF mode in proportion to the quantity of air used.
