Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a sintered alloy with superior strength, superior toughness and excellent coefft of friction and other bearing functions by mixing iron powder with powder of a Cu alloy based on a specified amount of Cu and contg. Zn or Sn, press molding the mixed powder, and sintering the molding in a gaseous Zn atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: Iron powder is mixed with powder of a Cu alloy such as brass or bronze based on 10W85% Cu and contg. other metal such as Zn or Sn. The mixed powder is press molded. After mounting Zn or ZnO on the resulting green compact or putting it into a container, the compact is heated to 700W1,000°C in a reducing or nonoxidizing atmosphere to form a gaseous Zn atmosphere, and simultaneously the compact is sintered.
