Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a large electromotive force for a long time by providing a lithium nitride protecting layer between the electrolyte and positive compound which is to accept lithium ions, in case of a battery in which lithium and lithium nitride are used for negative active material and electrolyte, respectively. CONSTITUTION:In a battery in which lithium metal is used for negative active material, lithium nitride for solid electrolyte, and a lithium-acceptable compound such as manganese dioxide, tungsten trioxide, molybdenum trioxide, vanadium pentaoxide, or 3.8 vanadium oxide for positive active material, and these elements are laminted in this order, a lithium nitride protecting layer is provided between the lithium nitride which serves as an electrolyte and the positive electrode. The protecting layer comprises thin films of lithium fluoride, lithium iodide, calcium fluoride, calcium nitride, and silicon dioxide, and the films are formed by evaporation or spattering, and the thickness is preferably 0.03-0.5mum. Thus the formation of a passive state film on the lithium nitride by the positive active material is prevented, and the desired large electromotive force can be maintained for a long time.
