Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the optical memory medium having improved recording sensitivity by selecting the thickness of films of a transparent layer and a recording layer so that the reflection rate of a light falling from the side of the back surface of a substrate is 0.2% or below. CONSTITUTION:An information is recorded by applying laser beams collected by a lens 9 on the recording layer 8 of three-layer structure composed of a reflecting layer 5, the transparent layer 6 and the main recording layer 7 of a thin metal layer, all of which are formed on the substrate 4 of a disc, from the side of the recording layer 8. In this constitution, on the main surface of the substrate 4 is provided the recording layer 8 through the intermediary of the transparent layer 6 having larger refractive index than the substrate 4 and further the thickness of films of the recording layer 8 and the transparent layer 6 is selected so that the reflection rate of the light falling from the side of the back surface of the substrate 4 is 0.2% or below. Then the recording sensitivity is improved and adverse effect on recording and reproduction due to sticking of dust to the recording layer, etc. can be prevented.
