Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a lens-shaped piezoelectric element of extremely small diameter by a method wherein a machinable material is bonded to a spherical portion of the material for the piezoelectric element, and with the machinable material supported, said material is ground from the side opposite to the spherical portion to form into a lens shape of small diameter, and the machinable material is removed thereafter. CONSTITUTION:A mechanable material 3 such as hardened synthetic resin is bonded 4 to a spherical portion 1 of a disc-shaped material 2. With the machinable material 3 chucked, the material 2 is ground by means of a grinder 7 while being rotated around a center line (a) so that the surface opposite to the spherical portion 1 is formed into a spherical surface 1'. Grinding is moreover proceeded so that the lens-shaped material 2' is ground into an extremely small lens shape. Then, the machinable material 3 is released from the chuck, and the bonding material 4 is dissolved in order to take out the lens-shaped material 2'. By said method, a lens- shaped material of extremely small diameter can be obtained with a condition where errors have been remarkably diffused.
