Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the aluminum heat exchanger from corrosion by a method wherein zinc is adhered to the surfaces of aluminum members prior to brazing to thereby form diffusion layers of zinc on the members and the density of the zinc is equalized.
CONSTITUTION: Zinc is adhered to the surfaces of aluminum members such as tubes, tanks, etc. Then the members are temporarily assembled into a heat exchanger and the assembly is coated with a flux and is heated in a furnace so that all the parts forming the assembly are brazed together. As a result of the above processes, the zinc is diffused in the aluminum members due to heat and a uniform density zinc diffusion layer is formed on the surface of each of the members. The zinc diffusion layer is utilized as a sacrifice anode to prevent the generation of pores in the aluminum members due to corrosion.
