Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a superior toner by preparing core particles for the toner by suspension polymn., dyeing them with an aqueoud dye, dipping the dyed particles in a soln. of a resin in a solvent slightly dissolving the particles to form resin coated dyed particles, and further sticking hydrophobic silica to the particles. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic powder, carbon black or the like is added to a monomer such as styrene or acrylate, and this composition is subjected to suspension polymn. to form core particles. The resulting dispersion is heated, and an aqueous dye is dissolved and agitated to dye the particles. After drying, the dyed particles are dipped in a soln. of hydrocarbon resin, terpene resin or other resin in a solvent slightly dissolving the particles, and they are dried to obtain resin coated dyed particles, which are then sieved and used as a toner. By dispersing hydrophobic fine silica powder in said resin soln., dipping the dyed resin particles in the dispersion, and drying them, silica is further stuck to the resin coated particles as required. The resulting toner is proof against moisture, has high charging characteristics and gives a clear image.
