Abstract
PURPOSE: To form the toner for electrostatic image development which is particularly suitable for magnetic brush developing method, has high fluidity and is easy to handle by covering the surfaces of resin particles containing magnetic substance with hydrophobic silica fine particles.
CONSTITUTION: The coloring solution is formed by dissolving polyvinyl alcohol, water soluble acrylic resin, etc. in an aqueous solvent, adding coloring agents thereto and adding and dispersing magnetic substance such as magnetite, carbonnyl iron or other of less than about 1μ in particle size. Next, hydrophobic silica particles of less than about 100μ (preferably several mμ to several 10 mμ) in particle size in which more than about 75% of the hydroxyl groups on the silica surfaces have been etherified by hydrophobic organic residual groups are added at about 2 to 200wt% to the above solution and the solution is stirred under high speed and high shearing force, after which volatile components are evaporated and removed form the resultant liquid particles and the particles are dried, whereby the toner powder having been covered with the hydrophobic silica particles is obtained
