Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a coating agent ideal for grain of casting sand by forming a resol type phenol resin having reached a specified molecular weight and the softening point into a sheet shape while cooling it and the resin is sieved after being cut vertically or horizontally under a half solid state before the solidification.
CONSTITUTION: Melted resol type phenol resin having reached a specified molecular weight and the softening point is introduced to the cooling hopper 2 including a pair of steel-made cooling roll 3 on the bottom thereof from the reaction vessel 1. The temperature of resin at this point ranges 70W110°C. The rolls 3 prevent the attachment of the resin because it is cooled by water and are fixed at the interval of 1W10mm. A half solid resin sheet about 2W5mm thick is obtained with the passage between the rolls 3. Then, the sheet is introduced between a pair of turning steel rolls 5 with splines and cut in a shape of a cord 2W5mm wide and 2W5mm thick. Subsequently, it is cut to the length of 2W5mm with the rotor 6 having 4W12 rotary blades to obtain a square granular resol resin. The resol resin is sieved with the vibrating sieve conveyor 8 lowering the temperature of the material down to 25°C by water cooling to obtain a product.
