Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease the thermal deformation of a color cathode ray tube and improve its picture quality by having nonmetallic impurities diffused over and included in the surface of a shadow mask, in order to reduce the coefficient of its thermal expansion. CONSTITUTION:The raw material (SPCE material) of a shadow mask provided with holes bored by photo etching is formed by pressing into a prescribed shape. Then, carbon is diffused on and included in the surface of the formed raw material of the shadow mask. Nitrogen or boron may be used as other impurities than carbon. Thereby, picture quality can be improved because the thermal expansion coefficient decreases from about 1.3X10<-5>/ deg.C to about 1.5X10<-5>/ deg.C, the thermal deformation of the mask is restrained color discrepancy, is prevented.
